Working with Finials and Decor

Finials are used on lamps as a final accent. They top off the lamp and hold the bulb fixture on, but they are often overlooked, as they are so small and seemingly unimportant. But they can add a very special touch to your room, especially when you experiment and occasionally change them.

A lamp with a faux stone body may have a round or rough one in the same color tone as the stone to perfectly match the style. But there would be nothing wrong with changing it to pick up the color of something else in the room, perhaps the shades.

The variety of them you see when you search for new ones is never ending. There are pineapple ones, and acorns, metal ones, and crystal ones. It just depends on the room and how you wish to accent it.

At Christmastime you can replace it with a Santa Claus one, or perhaps a Christmas tree design, or a snowflake. There is just no limit as to the slight touch of something different you can add to a room by just replacing this little object.

These decorative toppers are also used outdoors. The ball shaped styles are mounted to the top of flagpoles, typically. And then there are the accents for the roof. These are mounted to a turret cap on the roof, and the pole is added for it to sit on. These can be copper or other metal. Stone ones need no pole, they are just part of the roof, as a decorative accent to the ends or corners.

Also found on the end of bed posts, they accent the bedroom. They are made of wood, usually, if the post is also made of wood. And they are on the ends of curtain rods, as well. These are used to hold the curtain in place. Finials are decorative accents, and well as being functional.
