How hard is it to build a lava rock gas fire pit? How hard is it to build your own fire pit?

It is like anything, how hard do you want to make it. Yes that is an off handed answer but one that is true to ones own nature. By that I mean, things are only as hard or simple to do as one imagines it to be. Building a rear yard gas fire pit is can be one of those projects.

When I built mine, it was straightforward in design and took only part of a Sat. to make. Since that time though it has gone though countless up-grades, (I can not leave things alone and I figure nothing is ever really done until I am dead and gone). But I like fiddling with things anyway. The majority of people build it once and enjoy it for as long as they would like to. Again the issue is how tough is it to build a backyard fire pit?

If you're a beginner and can handle a spade a hammer and can change a wench, you can build a fire pit.

A good place to start is google images of fire pits and take time having a look at them to see what you like and of equal importance see parts of it that you hate. Get a basic idea of what does it for you.

Learn all about the basic components which make up a fire pit, nothing complicated or miraculous here.

Next google fire pit kits, and find the kit that will work for you.

Now the hard part, where to put it? Why is this hard? No two folks can agree precisely where anything should be, so it is a matter of compromises. Take your time here and think about it, envision every side of it. Height, length, width, where breezes in your area come from, the setting sun, trees other plants, how a long way from the kitchen, back door, is it straightforward to get to and see or be seen from. Think it though because moving it once it's set up is a pain.

Once all this is done the building of it actually is the easy part.

Have fun with it.
