You can however grow just about any type of seed as a micro green but you won't have the same effect as if you were to grow actual microgreens seeds. What gives these seeds that special something is all in the way that they are handled and grown. Their taste and how they appear are very unique and different with each plant.
These seeds can be raised right in your house, outdoors in a shaded area, greenhouse or using a clear dome. Just be careful to avoid rot or mold the seedlings. The plants would be useless in the event of those disasters happening. Keeping the soil moist is important but it is important to prevent overwatering of the seedlings.
These types of plants are mostly for a onetime harvest. Unlike other plants you generally only consume above the ground of the plant itself and not the root. Before you plant your seeds it will be better if you soak them for about 8 to 10 hours; this will yield the optimum results. The growth process will be better. However, if you are going to use a hydroponic system; you don't have to soak the seeds. It is very important as previously stated that you do not keep them in water too long; this will prevent you from having them mold or even rot.
If you have been trying to add pizzazz to your cooking, salads or spice you will want to grow your own greens with micro green seeds. The secret is to cut the plants as soon as you see the first greens that come out in the plants. This is the time they are at their most flavorful. They are also very colorful and fragrent with unique flavors. You have a choice, you can buy them in bulk or single favorites.
