Stan Micke and ECOsmarte Save Canyon West Golf Course

After four years of trying various unsuccessful fixes for his perennially brown golf course, Stan Mickle knew he had to attempt an "out-of-the-box" solution. He felt his customers deserved better and an incremental fix wouldn't cut it. As part of his problem-solving research, he had happened upon ECOsmarte, an environmentally-friendly water treatment company, with a reputation for successfully treating challenging and unique water problems. While their experience was predominantly in the area of pools and commercial manufacturing processes, they agreed to attempt to develop a process for treating troublesome golf courses.

They found that Mr. Mickle's golf course was a victim of its water supply. This area of Texas has extremely and naturally occurring hard water. The hardness of the water makes it very difficult to penetrate the soil surface and reach the roots of the grass. He tried using sulfur, a widely suggested solution, but he found this approach less than satisfactory. His grass remained brown and he was unhappy with both the cost and the harmful environmental impact.

Surface tension is what prevents hard water from permeating soil. Measured in dynes, surface tension can be reduced but the project was beyond the scale of anything ECOsmarte had ever tried before. Stan Mickle needed his water to consist of less than 60 dynes in order to be sure of success.

Mickle was receiving pressure from local business people who not only found the golf course unattractive but claimed that it diminished the over-all scenic quality of the whole area, for Mickle the stakes couldn't get any higher.

Three months after beginning the water treatment with ECOsmarte the Canyon West golf course was greening up and starting to look much nicer with vast areas of green where the course has previously been barren or at best brown. The ECOsmarte treatment of the water allowed the water to be distributed and absorbed by the ground more equally, in turn there were no more dry and wet patches that had previously spoiled the golf course.

Now Canyon West golf course is the most beautiful stretch of green in the state and ECOsmarte are currently enjoying a number of high profile referrals. If you would like to personally witness the incredible results of ECOsmarte's water processing technique, why not visit the course yourself? Throughout 2011, Stan and Wes Mickle will be hosting a number of fun charitable events at the course.
