The kind which is usually picked for a small family house in a residential area is the kind which is popularly known as the extensive green roof. Extensive green roofs for homes are very compatible for various reasons.

Not only that, they are excellent choices for garage or pool rooms or even garden sheds since these types of structures generally do not contain an attic and the foundational beams used for them are exposed which makes them strong and sturdy.

There are several basic ways on how you can design and install your extensive green roof.

The first you must consider is your roof itself. Your roof should have the ability to withstand the addition weight it may carry. This is the main reason why you should also consider reinforcing your roof structure foundation. Upon doing so, the nest thing you have to consider should be the waterproof properties of your roof. This is important so as not to acquire roof problems due to excess water. One probable way to do this is by installing a drainage mat. What is the function of this drainage mat? This kind of mat has the capacity to drain all excess water drains to the ground. It balances the amount of water in your green roof.

The next thing you should consider in building your green roof is the moisture blanket. This is a kind of green roof blanket which retains moisture to prevent dehydration of your green roof plants. On top of this blanket would be the vegetation planting medium and your plants themselves. The seeds of your plants may already be placed on your growing medium as well to be able to aid in the fast growing of your plants. The growing medium which you should use should not be solid and chunky. It may measure from one and half of an inch up to 6 inches in depth. The reason for the depth is to allow grown of plants with shallow roots and drought resistant plants which are high preferred for green roofs.

Extensive green roofs may require a certain amount of attention but you have to think about the good things it can offer to be able to compensate for the hardships and meticulousness in maintaining and caring for your green roof.
