With the high cost of food and produce these days it is known that many families are turning toward growing their own vegetables and food to maintain sustainability. With the conditions of the toxins added to our foods there is also concern of growing our food organically so that we are free from the toxins.
During the planning stage of your custom greenhouse, the greenhouse builder will describe the types of greenhouse you will need, its position and the equipment needed specifically targeted toward your climate. The types of greenhouses and the supplies needed should all be discussed during the planning phase.
For example, if you live in colder climates, you will want certain types of heating systems and particular materials in the greenhouse to aid your plants in healthy growth year round.
Greenhouse supplies also include misting and fog sprayers and is usually found in hotter climates. These misting units cool off the greenhouse area with a very fine mist making the air temperature cooler. These are controlled by a thermostat and come in many sizes and costs depending on the need.
Plants and flowers need to keep their controlled temperature and this is done by the gardener and vents built into the greenhouse. These are usually mechanical and allows the heat to escape through the top and the cooler air to fill the greenhouse at the specified temperature.
Another utility for healthy agricultural growth is with hydroponics. Hydroponics are usually a steel or plastic piping that allows the root to grow while it feeds on the nutrients in a water solution. No soil is necessary and the beauty of this method is the fact that it rids all plants of soil based disease and is more cost effective in the long run. Hydroponic greenhouses are growing in numbers within southern greenhouse regions. The greenhouse builder or manufacturer can either supply the hydroponics or they will point you in the right direction for setting up your hydroponic greenhouse.
Custom built greenhouses are permanent because they usually cover a specific area and are set in with a stone or brick wall. If you need a smaller area to work with, lean-to greenhouses or small stand-alone greenhouses are a good choice.
Lighting or grow lights also may be considered if your area is colder, short in daylight or need lights 24/7. These lights help with the germination process.
A gardener may also wish to include benches, misting wands, extra doors, plant hangers, sprinklers and extra shelving. Some are necessary but some are not.
In shorter growing seasons, freezes and cold weather can ruin the crops but with a greenhouse, the short season is extended and the gardener is able to have fresh vegetables or flowers bloom longer.
Small or mini-greenhouse kits are a good way to get started with your greenhouse gardening but they are much more inferior to the custom greenhouse and may not last long in increment weather.
Anyone can grow plants, but to grow plants well takes a little knowledge, skill and the right equipment. Each city and on line resources offer excellent information on starting a greenhouse garden. A greenhouse creates the perfect atmosphere for plants to flourish; so many people are building greenhouses on their properties, and stocking them with the right greenhouse supplies.
One last type of greenhouse structure to consider is the luxury greenhouse. These are very large solariums and greenrooms, some with many stories and swimming pools, water fountains and foliage resembling that of a vacation hideaway. Again, ask your greenhouse builder for more information on building a luxury greenhouse and planning your custom greenhouse.
