What Types of Garden Fencing are there?

When it comes to garden fencing many people not only use it as decoration but also to offer some security to their property as well. There are two types of fencing that is used today for providing security to ones home. You can either go for wooden privacy or wrought iron fencing if you wish. Below we look at a number of reasons why you should consider choosing either of these for your home.

Wrought Iron Fencing - This type of garden fencing has become increasingly popular with many homeowners in recent years. Not only can it prevent unwanted guests from entering the area surrounding a home but it also looks great as well. Even though this fencing comes with very few frills it still looks very decorative and doesnt enclose the garden too much because there are gaps between the bars.

Certainly if you are looking for garden fencing that will create a focal point in your garden then this is the kind to consider. Another thing to consider with this form of fencing that it generally does not require high levels of maintenance to keep it looking good. However, it would be wise every couple of years or so to check that the paint covering the iron has not become loose or broken away. If it has then you will need to treat and repaint the area in question.

Wooden Privacy Fencing - This kind of fencing for the garden does cost considerably less than the wrought iron type but it is more practical than decorative. As with the other fencing mentioned in this article it will help to ensure that unwanted guests won't be able to gain access to your property. However, because this fence is made up of panels to prevent people from seeing into your garden it doesn't allow much natural light into the space.

The other thing you need to be aware of when it comes to this type of fencing that it does need to be maintained regularly to keep it looking good. It may be a case of each year having to apply a new coat of wood stain or paint to this fencing to prevent the elements from damaging it.

As mentioned above both of these types of garden fencing will prevent unwanted visitors including some animals from gaining access to your property. However, you need to be aware that before you install any type of fencing on your property you make sure that no planning permission is required if it goes above a certain height. Plus with the wooden type of fencing although you may be maintaining your side of the fence it doesnt mean your neighbour will as well.
