Three Ways to Grow Roses and Make Them Produce More Flowers

You might want to grow roses to enhance your garden's beauty. Or you want to cultivate them to display inside your home. No matter how you want to use your roses, it is best to take heed of the following tips to grow roses properly.

Expose the Rose to the Sun for at Least 5 Hours Every Day

Adequate exposure to sunlight is important because light provides the energy that your roses need to produce flowers. Thus, you must make sure that it gets at least 5 hours of sunlight every day.

If you don't have a sunny enough garden, you may be best to grow another type of plant. If you still want to grow roses in a place where they get only partial sun, just realise you won't be rewarded with many flowers and they will be more prone to pest and disease as they won't be as strong as those grown in full sun.

However, there are rose species that can tolerate partial shade. You can find a list of these species at growingroses.org.

Be Sure that the Rose is Not Waterlogged

Although roses need plenty of water for flower production, they should not be drenched in water for too long. Make sure that the soil has a good drainage before you plant roses in it.

Leaving the roses submerged in water for a long time can affect their health. Aside from being prone to diseases and pest, the roses' canes may begin dying back and the leaves may turn yellow and fall.

Don't Plant Roses amongst Other Trees Or In Grass

If you grow roses near large trees or in grass, the tree roots or grass roots will be competing for moisture and nutrients, and your roses will come off second best. Roses are hungry feeders because they produce so many blooms and need to be kept well fertilised to produce at their best.

Don't grow roses near trees and grass that may compete with them for nutrients and moisture. That way, you ensure the good health and optimum flowering of your roses.
