Roofing Material- Metal And 3- Tab Shingles

In an attempt too make best possible roofing materials; manufacturers have come out with metal and 3-tab shingles. These are two options commonly used on residential roofs. While 3-tab shingles are considered an industry standard in roofing and are the most economical variety, metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly and have a lifespan of 30 years.

Based on the unpalatable truth that each comprises of its negative as well as positive points, we shall discuss here the scoring points as well as the downsides of both roofing material.

Three-tab shingles are a type of asphalt shingle. In actual, fiberglass or any other organic matter like cellulose is covered with multiple asphalt layers. Furthermore, to protect the material from UV rays, minerals are embedded into shingles. These are easier to lay, thus saving on installation time, effort and cost.

Metal is synonymous with strength and toughness. But as a roofing material, these are laid in the form of metal tiles. In addition to this, metal roofs are highly suitable for roofs that have both low and steep slopes. Also, these have a larger life span.

Standard 3-tab shingles can stand up under winds of up to 60 miles per hour. They have an average lifespan of 20 years. They are low-maintenance, fire-resistant, environmentally friendly, and can withstand heat, cold and strong winds. They are built to last the lifetime of your home and not crack, split or rot.

Metal roofs are a perfect combination of both durability and style. With metal roofing, one can enhance the charm of the roof and house in turn. Beside this, metal roofing adds years to the roof as well. One can shape metals into shingles to provide a look of wood or clay roofing materials.

Due to sudden change in temperature, 3 tab shingles undergoes a thermal shock. Well, this happens because of its inability to expand and contract as per changes. This constitutes in cracking and splitting of the shingles. This if followed by the growth of algae and fungus when water gets into them. Also, metal roofs, if coated with wrong paint, usually gets deteriorated.

It is thus left to the customers to choose the roofing material as per the requirements and the climate you are living in.
