Playing with Finger Paints
Using finger paints is one thing that even the littlest child can have fun with. The concept of using their own hands to apply and manipulate the paint is usually very appealing to young children. Also, finger paints can be quite straightforward to use, and cheap as well. All you need is a good amount of paper, an assortment of finger paint colors, a covered table surface, along with an apron or worn out clothes for the child to wear. You can even make your own homemade finger paints by combining a quarter cup of cornstarch, a quarter teaspoon of salt, one and one half tablespoons of sugar, and one cup of cold water all together in a saucepan. Cook this mixture over low heat for roughly ten minutes, making sure that you stir it constantly. As soon as the mixture has thickened to the look and feel you want for your finger paint, take the pan off of the heat and allow it to cool. Separate this mixture into a few little plastic containers of some kind, and then add a couple of drops of food coloring to each one, and then you will have a nice amount finger paint in a variety of colors for your youngster to play with. When their paintings are dry you can put some in colorful large picture frames, which will enable them to enjoy the pleasure of having their very own artwork exhibited on the wall.
Crayon Scrape Art
Children always seem to love an element of surprise in their art, making crayon scratch art a popular choice. Start by protecting your table with paper or plastic. It might also be a wise decision to put paper or a drop cloth down on the ground to protect against wayward crayon particles that have been scratched off. Give your child several pieces of paper, along with plenty of different colors of crayons. Encourage them to use a variety of different colors to draw designs on the paper, making sure to cover the entire paper surface in colors. Make sure that they do not use any black crayons for this step in the process. And then, have your child use a black crayon to cover the whole surface of the paper, including all the colors. Let them scratch designs on the paper using some kind of object like a plastic spoon or wooden popsicle stick. This will take away the black crayon coating, and reveal the colors below. They can scratch off as much or as little of the black layer as they desire to create the effect they are looking for. When they are finished, brush off the paper to remove any loose flakes of crayon. The end result is a kind of inverted art, which can be quite interesting. Display a few of their best artwork in shiny metal picture frames.
Your kids will love expressing their artistic personalities with these easy but fun projects.
