Art Using the Hand
If you want a craft project which is fun, fast and inexpensive, it's hard to beat hand art. The sole things that this craft require would be a box of crayons, a pad of paper, plus your child's hand. You could start by tracing your own hand on the sheet of paper using a crayon. Then, use your creativity to change the hand tracing into something entirely different. Turning the tracing into a turkey is one thing that lots of folks have done at Thanksgiving time, but there are lots of other fun and creative things that you can try with the tracing. For example, try drawing a face on the palm portion of the hand tracing, making use of the fingers for a spiked hairdo. Another idea is to turn your paper upside-down when you have created the hand tracing. In this position, the fingers could be an insect or space monsters legs. This can be a creative and cheap way for you to spend an afternoon. Make sure to display one or two of your child's favorite hand tracing creations in picture frames.
Paper Towel "Tie Dye" Project
Your youngster can make numerous pieces of dyed artwork by using some plain white paper towels, water, some rubber bands or twist-ties, paper clips, a few small bowls, plus some watercolor paints. Begin by placing a vinyl tablecloth or plastic drop cloth on the table to protect the surface. Fold an ordinary white paper towel into a fan-fold fashion. Then, use the rubber bands, twisty-ties or paper clips to restrict the folds in certain areas. Pour a bit of water into each of the small bowls. Then, using the watercolor paints along with a brush, place a different color into each bowl of water. Dip your folded paper towel right into a color, then dip a new area into another color. The paper towel absorbs the colored paints, and the locations that have the paper clips, rubber bands, and twist ties will stay white. When you have added enough different colors, blot the folded towel gently with clean paper towels to get rid of excess moisture. Next, take off the twist ties, paper clips, or rubber bands and look at the beautiful tie dyed work of art. Lay flat to dry. You can even cover the painted paper towel using a clean paper towel and iron it to remove the folds. This tie dyed art is really a beautiful thing to display in picture frames, and it will include a large amount of design and color to your room.
Now that you have a couple of new ideas you can try, have a blast getting your child started. Remember to frame the end product in order that it might be proudly displayed!
