After recovering from a particularly long, drawn-out winter, florists all over the UK have been able to pedal their wares and revel in the joys of a long, balmy British summer.

The summer might not have delivered the extended heat wave that disgruntled Brits seem to hope for or even expect on an annual basis, but it has certainly thawed out the nation's gardens after a particularly cold deep freeze over the winter period that saw temperatures plummet to a goose-pimpling minus 15 degrees Celsius!
Such shows attract all kinds of flower fans, from the part-time to the full-time, the impartial to the passionate. Even some of the impartial fans become passionate after attending a flower show - it is difficult to resist the attractiveness of some of the nation's best flowers and, indeed, some of the best uses of flowers. Television shows have been popping up all over the place, too, in efforts to get people stuck into gardening as an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Britain loves a good bunch of flowers. One never fails to brighten up somebody's day, whether it is for a birthday, anniversary, funeral or even just someone leaving the workplace. It is not only the smell and sight of flowers that bring a smile to someone's face, it is as much the thought as anything. After all, a vibrant bouquet lets the person know that they are on your mind, which is always comforting to know. The florists in Colchester are well aware of this and offer a beautiful selection to give to a loved one.
People love flowers and this was typified with the aforementioned Ipswich Flower Show. Ten years ago, it was due to be scrapped by the local council to save money. However, Otley College realised its importance to the community and revived it in Christchurch Park, where it now attracts crowds of over 3,000 every year.
The festival won the Silver Gilt award from the region's Anglia In Bloom competition and in 2011 local people are being strongly encouraged to adorn buildings, public spaces, houses and parks with beautiful flowers that might give Colchester an edge over other towns and cities when the judges come to decide which places are most deserving of this year's awards and seem ready to beat the flowers Ipswich have on offer this year.
With longevity of life and unique aesthetic characteristics, carnations and daisies are the UK's most favoured flower choice, as well as that of the UK's florist.
Perhaps the king of flower shows is Chelsea, which attracts the most skilful arrangers and growers of flowers Essex, Sussex, Surrey and the rest of Greater London and beyond has to offer. It's the show to see and be seen at, and florists look forward to it as the high point of the summer every year.
